Michael D. | Self Portrait

Video

Michael D.

Straight from the beginning of this video you can clearly see what Michael is like and you can tell what his personality is like and what his interests are. The music used is a clear indication of his personality and how he sees himself as a person. From the music I can see that he likes quite classical movies and likes using simple shots in his work to help tell the story. With the voice-over you can tell that he has an accent, which tells us that he isn't English, which also suggests that he might like international movies. Through the title you can tell  that he is creative and technical through the liquid covering up the title which would have been done through the editing. This gives me the idea that he is an editor and prefers that process when making films.

He uses a lot of close-up shots as well as angling the camera so it's quite close to his body and work area. This adds a personal touch to the video and makes it seem like we are learning a lot about him through being up close and personal with him. There is one close-up shot that slowly zooms into his face with the focus on the eyes. This makes me understand that he is a hardworking guy and he takes his work seriously. This is then backed up by a comment made further on in the video where he says he can't wait to power up his computer when he gets home.

Due to the no use of dialogue or music requirement for our self portrait video, I am unable to use any inspiration from his sound design, however I will use a compilation of shots, including some of the ones he has used. My shots will be fairly close to make the video personal and it will also either be mixture of handheld and stabilised, like his video is, or all handheld shots.
