At first I thought about having a clear narrative all the way through, but as most of my other units had been very scripted and storyline based, I decided to go along the montage route.
A few visual ideas I had were:
A few visual ideas I had were:
- A flame surrounded by darkness
- Female sat, alone, curled up with a dark tone to the colouring of the image - isolation
- Involving a letter in some way
- Peaceful visuals
- Landscapes
- Beach
- Park
- Showing a female wearing a mask
One of the main things I wanted to experiment with in this video is the sound design.
Depression is a mental illness, which means that from the outside of a person they can look happy and be normal, but in the inside it can be completely different.
I wanted to show this through the sound design, and I wanted to make it so the audience can see and hear inside the characters head. The audience will almost get an intimate feeling with the character as they will understand what it's like to go through depression.
As depression is quite a hard topic to come by, I wanted to portray it for what it actually is - instead of showing a sad person because thats far from the truth with depression.
A few audio ideas I had were:
- Distorted music or ambience
- Echo
- Buzzing noise
- Distorted and faint crying, screaming, breathing
- Negative phrases being said - like the character is talking to themselves in their head
- Contrasting children laughing and being happy
With all of these ideas in mind, and looking through the poem itself, I am going to start to break down the poem, line by line.
This is so I can decide what each part of the poem will look like and sound like, and also it will help organise my video and the lost of shots.
