Set Design Outcome | Development ~ SP

Myself and Josh, as director and producer, went to the UCA building in Rochester to meet with the Set Design team. After their previous visit to the studios, we went through the sort of ideas we had and what sort of props we wanted, and they went away and brainstormed.

When meeting up with them, we saw that they had produced a model for us to see and a powerpoint to help bring across their ideas more clearly.
As you can see from the images they've gone for more of a classic Hollywood film vibe than a cheesy one which I feel like we had before hand. They used the colour purple in the set as it's a contrasting colour and goes with the red, but I'm quite nervous as to whether our logo will go with that colour scheme. I didn't mention this within our meeting, but they said that it should look good together and it will still go.
I really love the podiums and I also like that the host's one has a gold stripe where as the contestants ones are black. I think these podiums definitely give off a glamorous and glitz vibe, which is a requirement we wanted for the show.
They have interpreted glitter a little less than we had thought, but that's probably a good choice otherwise it might overpower some of the other details. The gold cut out parts will be taller than the actual set, and they definitely look very glamorous which in turn matches the tone and vibe of the show.

They have put the red carpet coming out of the door rather than the middle of the set, to give it a bit more use. We liked this change and thought it would work well. However, where they have placed the podiums, we may not be able to use the red carpet. The podiums, being either side of the carpet, may not be as close as they need to be. We have to get a 2-S (two shot) of both contestants and if they are that far apart from each other, the 2-S will be fairly wide.
I mentioned this to Josh, and he agreed with me in terms of it being a problem, but I've decided that we can only tell once we have the set in. During rehearsals we'll carry on as we normally do with the 2-S, but when the set comes in we'll put the red carpet down and see what we can do, then we'll decide if we want to use it or not.

Another part of the set that I really like is the TV stand. We are using our TV and they will be making a box to put it into. The stand below the TV will be full of popcorn and I think that's a really good detail as it matches the movie theme and also it's very interesting to look at.

For Round 4, they have re-designed the game. Previously the game had a row of boxes, but the tables needed would have to be really big and long, and they may not have worked well in the set. Instead they have made it a tall board with doors that slide to reveal the answers. We really like this new change and we think it will work a lot better than before. The only doubt I have is the height of it as we don't want it to be too tall so the host won't reach it. I'm not sure that'll be too much of a problem, but if it is then we'll have to find boxes for him to stand on during that round.

Here is a digital version of the set design, and I personally think this shows the idea of the set better than the small model. In terms of flooring they will try and find a floor, however Sammi does have a floor that we might be able to use if we need it. It would be nice to have a black floor as it would add to the glam of the show, however if we can find one or can't have one then we will have to use the studio floor.

If there are any other changes that need to be made, Josh will contact them and hopefully they will send us some pictures of the set before we see it in person.
