For my first shoot day, I decided to bring along Nisserin with me as an extra pair of hands and creative eyes. I had previously worked with Nisserin before and I knew she would be helpful if I ran out of shot ideas and she also has good camera skills as well.
I thought, but having an extra pair of hands with me, it would make things less stressful for me and if she had any ideas that I hadn't thought of, then she could say them or even have a go at the shot herself.
We arrived at Guildhall at 10 am, which was the time that myself and Rachel had arranged previously. I knew this shot wouldn't take very long, but doing the shoot quite early in the morning meant that we had enough time to take our time shooting, get as many shots as possible, and check all the shots afterwards as well.
Rachel introduced us to Steve, who is in charge of the objects in the museum and making sure they are restored and put in a safe place. They took us into the museum, from their office, and they had already set up a little area for us to film which is actually really helpful. The model was on a table, and what I didn't think would be possible was to have the glass dome off of the model. However, upon looking at the model, I saw that they had taken it off which I was really grateful for. This made shooting the model a lot easier as there wouldn't be the possibility of getting a glare from the glass in the camera.
I followed the shot list and get quite a few shots at first, but then I decided that I didn't particularly like the background as it wasn't plain or white as I first thought. However, when I mentioned this to Steve and Rachel, they said they did have a white screen that we could use.
Once they had set this up, I re shot the other shots I had previously done, and I thought the shots looked so much better.
We finished the shoot day at around 12pm in the afternoon, and we took our time shooting the model. When looking at the footage afterwards, I realised I got a lot more footage than I had anticipated, which was good as it meant I had more shots to work with within the edit.
The shoot day went really well, and talking with Steve about the ship made me enjoy the process even more as it helped towards the research I will be doing within writing the script. I'm really happy with all of the shots I got and I think they will edit together really well.
During this shoot, there weren't any restrictions within what I could and couldn't shoot, and this made shooting the model a fun experience. I could experiment with the environment I was in, and it made the shots look more effective and interesting to watch.
